Hi, I’m Joel Lowry.

Maybe you’re just beginning to discover God’s call on your life, or maybe you’re a seasoned leader looking to reignite your passion and grow in your leadership. Wherever you are on your journey of walking in your kingdom calling and shaping the world around you—I’d love to join you.

I know firsthand that calling often lies on the other side of our greatest fears and insecurities. When I was five years old, I was an ornament in my school’s Christmas tree choir. At the back of the auditorium, a parent had set up a massive video camera on a tripod—it was the late ’80s, and those things were huge. I was convinced it was Channel 2 News zoomed in on me, and I froze like a deer in the headlights. That experience planted a fear of being in front of people that stayed with me for years.

Fast forward nearly 15 years, and I found myself preaching to a dozen friends in a church I helped start in an English pub. I was terrified. I actually remember praying that Jesus would return so I wouldn’t have to preach that night.

Skip ahead another 20 years, and something has shifted. The transformation wasn’t overnight, but it was deep. It didn’t come from a course or a teacher—it came from discovering my calling. For years, I believed I had to be entertaining, persuasive, or clever to make a difference. I thought I had to be like someone else to be effective. But two things changed my perspective.

First, as a college pastor, I realized our ministry had grown to the point where I couldn’t personally meet with everyone I was responsible for. If I was going to lead effectively, I had to learn to communicate to larger groups. That’s when I stopped seeing speaking as a performance and started seeing it as a function of my calling. It wasn’t about impressing people—it was about leading them and pointing them towards life and purpose.

Second, I discovered that people weren’t moved by my clever thoughts or well-crafted stories. They were moved by my authenticity. The very thing I thought was a weakness—being myself—became my greatest strength. The old saying it true, when you discover who you were created to be, you won’t want to be anyone else.

The truth is that there is something God put in you, that when you discover it, it begins to unlock everything. This blog isn’t about public speaking or preaching—there are plenty of experts who cover that. Instead, I want to speak to the heart of leaders. I want to help you unveil your kingdom calling, equip you to transform the world around you, and walk with you as you leave a legacy that impacts your neighbors, nations, and generations.

Here’s a little about me: I’m a native Texan with a heart for the world. A fourth-generation follower of Jesus and a third-generation church leader and missionary. I have the most wonderful family, I’m the husband to the most beautiful Lauren and the father to the incredible trio of “E’s”, Eliza, Evelyn, and Eli. I have the great joy of serving as the Lead Pastor and founder of Sozo Church in San Marcos, TX—which, in my humble opinion, is the best church in the world! Beyond that, I also find deep fulfillment in serving as a spiritual father, coach, and advisor to a growing network of churches and spiritual leaders worldwide, as well as to several business leaders and entrepreneurs.

I’d love to connect with you on this journey. Let’s step into our kingdom calling together.
